Squirrel Removal Toronto
Squirrels frequently enter Toronto homes through rooflines, soffits, vents, and fascia gaps, where attics provide warmth and shelter. Left unresolved, squirrel activity can lead to noise issues, insulation damage, and compromised building materials.
Wildlife Shield provides professional squirrel removal in Toronto using humane exclusion methods designed to remove the animals safely and prevent re-entry. Our focus is not just removal, but identifying how squirrels accessed the structure and securing the home so the problem does not return.

Common Signs of Squirrel Activity in Toronto Homes
Squirrel issues often develop gradually and are most noticeable in attic spaces and upper floors. Squirrel problems in Toronto homes are rarely random. They follow predictable structural access patterns tied to rooflines, soffits, and attic voids common in older housing stock. Common indicators include:
Scratching or running sounds in ceilings or walls
Daytime activity, often early morning or late afternoon
Damage to soffits, roof vents, or fascia boards
Nesting materials visible near rooflines
Insulation disturbance in attics
Toronto’s mix of older brick homes, flat roofs, and rear additions makes many properties particularly vulnerable to squirrel entry.
Squirrel Removal Process
After the inspection is concluded the photographic material from the inspection will be presented to the home owner. This process guarantees transparency in the work actually required to fix the problem at hand. Based on the photographic material, the technician’s assessment and the homeowners preferences an action plan will be drawn out. When a decision has been reached on the best possible approach, only then will work commence. The technician will then place galvanized wire mesh on the entry points while setting one way doors. The utmost care is always taken to ensure that no further damage accrues to your property. The one way doors will enable the squirrels to exit your home but they will not permit them to come back in, thus ensuring that your squirrel problem disappears. Upon our second visit we will remove the one way door once we confirm that all animals have exited. If you need help with squirrel removal and squirrel proofing solutions in Toronto please call 647-560-3988.
Inspection
We solve squirrel problems every day. All our technicians know exactly what to look for and will find all entry points and weak spots during our initial thorough inspection of your property.
Removal
Once entry points are found we attach one-way squirrel door to allow squirrels exit but not re-entry. It is the humane way and within a few days the squirrels will use the door to exit your space.
Exclusion
Other entry points are sealed to make sure there is no other way in. We will recommend strengthening weak spots to avoid any wildlife problems in the future.

Humane, regulation-compliant wildlife control
Animal friendly squirrel removal

Clear communication and documented work
Fully insured service
Many of our clients contact us after experiencing repeat issues caused by incomplete or temporary repairs. Our goal is a permanent solution. Squirrel activity is a common issue in many Toronto neighborhoods, particularly in areas with mature trees and older housing stock such as Riverdale, Leslieville, The Annex, High Park, and Midtown. Homes in these parts of the city often have rooflines, soffits, and attic spaces that provide easy access for squirrels seeking shelter. Understanding how local building styles and seasonal conditions contribute to attic entry helps ensure squirrel removal is handled correctly and prevented from recurring.

Hi great work would recommendPosted on Wendy FuruyaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Hello. Very happy with wonderful and prompt service from Richard at Wildlife Shield. He got me out of a very serious and tricky invasion of a momma raccoon and her five babies who had taken up residence in my basement ceiling. The mom had burrowed under the deck, crawled through a hole into the basement crawlspace, then into the basement. Richard shooed the mom outside and cut a small hole in the ceiling to grab the babies out. They were put in a box outside for the mom to find. He then crawled into the crawlspace, patched the hole to outside. Because of vegetation and a fence surrounding the deck, he took the boards off one side of the deck and secured the inside edge of the deck with metal mesh dug 12 inches into the soil so the raccoons wouldn’t be able to dig under. Unfortunately the family had taken residence now inside a pocket in the crawlspace so had to be removed again by taking off and replacing some siding on the house. This was done over two days- the first day the family was removed and the hole between the crawlspace and the deck was sealed, and the second day the deck was secured and a last minute second removal was done. Disinfection of the entire space was then performed. Kudos to Richard for crawling into the crawlspace and digging under the deck in very small spaces! Also dealing with a very fierce momma!Posted on VickiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very happy with our experience using Wildlife Shield! We had raccoons in our attic and honestly not a whole lot of money to deal with them. Wildlife Shield was a much more affordable option compared to others. Grant was the guy who came to our house. His help was MUCH appreciated 😊 He gave us some great advice & options to prevent issues in the future. Highly recommend!! Thank you!Posted on Collin NguyenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Simon, Scott and the team here were excellent in the service they delivered. Helped us and the neighbours get rid of some very active racoons. Professional in their service, excellent advice given and never once did we feel pressured. Would highly recommend their service. My parents and the neighbours are sleeping better now that we stopped hearing our friendly neighborhood racoons roaming around upstairs!Posted on Lindy KuwaharaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Grant was great! Very informative and helpful. I will definitely call again if I have pest problems.Posted on Barbara DosenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Called them at 11:30 pm in a panic, they called me in the morning and showed up the next day and took care of my racoon problem in a humane way. Would highly recommend Wildlife Shield. Second revue: It is my second time using Wildlife Shield and I am so happy with their services. I was a bit hysterical on the phone and Simon was patient and reassuring. Adrian and Richard were the service providers to remove baby raccoons from my house and they did a great job. Those raccoons were pesky and they had them come back twice but Wildlife Shield was prompt, efficient and humane. I highly recommend them if you have any wildlife in your house. Thank youPosted on Stephanie CosmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a racoon living in our chimney, which then led to it living in our fireplace which has been drywalled over. We called Wildlife Shield on a Saturday and Richard came to our house Monday morning and installed a one-way door on our double stack chimney. When the racoon proved to not be able to get out of the one way door, Richard came back and repositioned the door for us at no extra charge. Great service and very knowledgeable! I can't wait to have a good nights sleep again 🙂

Squirrel Damage
In an urban environment squirrels can damage almost every part of a structure. They can chew holes through roofing material, siding, wood and even metal flashing or soffits.
Once they eventually break into an attic they will over time compress insulation and contaminate the area with their feces and urine. Over time the interior smell of urine and feces will be noticeable indoors.
Additionally, squirrels just like other rodents like mice and rats, they chew all the time. They will chew on wood and sometimes chew on electrical wiring. This is particularly risky as the last thing you want is a potential fire hazard in your attic. A space filled with dry and potentially flammable material. Repairing damaged wires can be costly.
Squirrels in the Attic
Squirrels like to nest in attics and this behaviour is very common in the Greater Toronto area. Once inside they will build nests. Squirrels have babies twice annually, once in the spring and once in the autumn, they are continuously searching for sheltered regions to construct their nests. Squirrels get in the attic by chewing holes in the outside, typically under gutters, or in building gaps where dormers meet the roofline and through the drip edge. They may also obtain entrance to attics by chewing corners of trimming or some other weak area which enables them access to the loft area. Rotten wood or even solid wood is no match to squirrel teeth. Here are the most common points of entry squirrels can use to make their way in your attic. Every squirrel control inspection includes a thorough examination of all these points.
Roof Vents
Plastic or aluminum roof vents are no match to squirrel teeth. While the roof vents allow for proper air flow to your attic they warm air that escapes attracts small animals like squirrels and raccoons. When the animals come across the plastic barrier it is a matter of time until they chew their way through them.
Wall Vents
Dryer vents, kitchen exhaust vents, bathroom vents are all vulnerable spots squirrels can chew threw to move in. Vent pipes on the inside are particularly attractive to squirrels. They not only emit warm air from the inside of your structure but also resemble tree cavities which are natural forms of shelter for the animals. We at Wildlife Shield offer prefabricated steel vent covers that no animal can break through.
Roof Edges
The edge of the roof or drip edge is the area behind the eavestrough or gutters. These areas are particularly prone to wear and weathering as that is water and snow melt end up there. Clogged gutters, ice damage and vegetation over time make things worse. As shingles, roof boards and even aluminum siding in the area deteriorate they create ample opportunities for squirrels to chew through. Regular maintenance can help but squirrels will find a way inside at some point. We can strengthen those areas to make sure the animals can get through.
Plumbing Ventilation Pipe Mats
Plumbing mats are what support the ventilation pipes on your roof. They are used to exhaust sewer gases. The pipes are supported by a plastic mat to make sure the whole on the roof is sealed after the installation of the pipe. This protective plastic mat is no match for squirrel teeth. Our wildlife control experts can install protective mesh or flashing on those areas to make sure no squirrel can chew threw it. The mesh also protects from raccoons attempting to lift the pipe.
Chimneys
Just like they are for raccoons, uncapped chimneys are an open invitation for squirrels. While squirrels can climb up and down brick chimneys they can get stuck in metal ones. We can seal the chimney so that no squirrel or other wildlife can get back in after they are gone.
Soffits
Squirrels and other wildlife can gain access to an attic through the soffit. Typically this occurs where two roofs meet. It is not only faulty installation and the gaps installers leave that can grant easy access to wildlife. A determined squirrel can easily chew threw the weakened material in the corner.
Gable Vents
Like all other types of vents, gamble vents are installed to allow air flow into your attic and in the Greater Toronto area they are typically plastic or wood and consequently no match to squirrels looking for shelter. They will chew through them and gain access to your attic.
Squirrel One Way Door
Similar to the other wild animal removal process the most effective way to remove squirrels is to use a one way door. Once all entry points are sealed a one way door is attached to allow animals exit but no re-entry. The animals use the door to exit through their known entry point but once they return they wont be able to get access. It is very important that all other entry points are sealed and all vulnerable areas addressed so that the animals can’t get access from somewhere else.

Squirrel Signs
Common signs of squirrels in the attic often include scratching noises in the attic during early morning or late afternoon, when squirrels are most active. Homeowners may also notice squirrels chewing wires in the attic, which poses a serious fire risk, along with insulation damage and nesting debris. Over time, squirrels damaging the roof, soffits, or fascia boards can create visible exterior openings that allow repeat access. If left unresolved, these issues can escalate into a full squirrel infestation in the attic, increasing the likelihood of structural damage and ongoing noise problems.
Dead Squirrel Removal
We remove dead animals including squirrels from attics, sheds, gardens, roofs. If it is on your property and you don’t want to deal with it we can remove it for a minimal cost. Prices for dead squirrel removal can vary depending on difficulty and accessibility. For instance if the animal is on your lawn the cost would be less than what it would be to remove the carcass from behind drywall or inside the attic. One way or another we can remove the carcass and make sure all odours are eliminated.
Understanding Squirrel Behavior in Toronto
Eastern Grey Squirrels
The most common species of squirrel in Toronto is the Eastern Grey Squirrel. In the wild they are primarily grey in color however in urban settings melanistic grey squirrels, black, are very common. They are the most common type of squirrel and chances are that if you are dealing with a squirrel problem, it is of the black eastern grey species. They are hoarders and save food in caches for later recovery. Consequently, they can stay in an attic for more than a few days without having to go out. That is why we allow a few days for the animals to exit when we place a one way door. Urban squirrel activity in Toronto is not random and follows repeatable patterns tied to structure, seasonality, and daily activity cycles.
Red Squirrels
A less common invader type of invader are Red squirrels. They require a smaller entry point to access an attic than a grey or black squirrel and can be more difficult to find. Regardless, we can get them out. Wildlife Shield can guarantee red squirrel removals. They are les common in Toronto but we sometimes do see them in Toronto’s outskirts.
Squirrel Babies
Squirrels have litters twice per year, Spring and Fall. Checking for babies is important as squirrels will typically search for nesting spots like wall cavities if they’re interested in a safe spot to raise their babies. Most squirrels will probably have one breeding period where the litter is born in February or March, while older squirrels can breed twice a year and also give birth to a litter in June or even July. An attic inspection is essential at this point as leaving squirrel babies behind can lead to other problems.
Squirrel Proofing Solutions
In some cases, the damage inflicted to the homeowner’s property is so severe that additional attention is required. We are capable with dealing with such situations by providing animal proofing for the entire house . This process is more extensive and usually involves placing chimney caps, installing screens under decks and strengthening all weak points in your roof, points that animals can use to enter. This service is provided with a warranty so that you can rest assured that you will not be dealing with any more wildlife problems.

Cleaning and Disinfecting
Raccoons and squirrels will use your attic as a latrine. The longer they stay they worse things will get. We safely remove feces and deodorize the area with commercial grade products that break down odours and pathogens. Once animals are out we deodorize the attic and entry points the animals used to remove any animal scent. We use commercial products that destroy odors from what animals have left behind whether it being feces, urine or carcasses.
When animals have been in an attic for a long time the insulation gets compressed and contaminated beyond repair. Compressed insulation means that it produces a lesser R value. As a result it has lost its insulation capacity and needs to be replaced. We remove contaminated insulation and clean the attic space so that it is ready for a new batch of insulation. Aside from the pathogens that will survive in your warm attic, insulation contaminated with urine and feces will smell in the living area.
