Squirrel Removal From Three-Storey Commercial Building – Toronto

Summary

This squirrel removal was completed by Wildlife Shield at a three-storey commercial property in Toronto. The issue involved active squirrel entry at the front dormer soffit, requiring humane removal and permanent exclusion. The work was completed over two winter visits to ensure safety and proper confirmation of results.

Background / Property Context

The property was a multi-storey commercial structure located on a busy street in Toronto’s east end. Roof access was required to reach the suspected entry point near the dormer soffit. Snow and ice were present at the time of service, which affected roof conditions and required additional safety planning.

Customer Concern

The customer contacted Wildlife Shield after hearing squirrel activity near the upper levels of the building. They believed the squirrels were entering near the front of the structure, close to the soffit at the dormer.

Inspection & Findings

Upon arrival, Ardian inspected the roofline and confirmed squirrel entry at the dormer soffit. The opening showed signs consistent with repeated wildlife access. Additional inspection identified a roof vent that was vulnerable to wildlife entry and required reinforcement.

Due to winter conditions, roof surfaces were snow-covered and icy, which slowed movement and limited work pace. For safety, the work was completed by two technicians.

Treatment / Removal

The squirrels were removed humanely using non-lethal exclusion methods. During the first visit, a one-way door was installed over the active entry point to allow the squirrels to exit without re-entry. The door was left in place to allow sufficient time for all animals to vacate the structure naturally.

Exclusion & Repairs

While the one-way door was in place, approximately four feet of exclusion material was installed along the damaged wooden soffit to prevent further access. The roof vent was also wildlife-proofed using secure screening to block potential entry points. All materials were fastened to withstand weather exposure and future wildlife pressure.

Outcome & Confirmation

A second visit was completed to remove the one-way door after no further squirrel activity was reported. The exclusion work was inspected and confirmed to be intact. The customer was advised to continue monitoring, with no further activity observed at the time of completion.

Technician Notes

  • Work completed over two visits due to roof height and winter conditions

  • Snow and ice required slower movement and additional safety measures

  • One-way door successfully allowed squirrel exit before final sealing

  • All identified entry points were secured to prevent re-entry

All wildlife work was completed safely, professionally, and in accordance with humane removal standards.
