Summary

We completed a two-visit wildlife removal and exclusion service after confirming the presence of both a raccoon and a squirrel occupying different sections of the roof. The work focused on humane eviction using species-appropriate one-way doors, followed by permanent exclusion to prevent re-entry at known vulnerability points.

The property is a century home with multiple rooflines, soffit intersections, wall vents, and plumbing penetrations. These architectural features can create accessible entry points when materials age or separate over time.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported frequent raccoon activity around the property and was concerned an animal may have entered the roof. Audible activity from above living spaces prompted a request for a professional wildlife inspection.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, we confirmed a raccoon occupying one area of the roof structure and a squirrel using a separate entry point. Visible vulnerabilities included soffit intersections, a roof drip edge, plumbing vent penetrations, and multiple wall vents. Some areas showed signs of lifted materials and gaps consistent with wildlife access.

Cause Analysis

Older roof assemblies and intersecting rooflines can loosen over time, creating gaps at soffits, drip edges, and vent penetrations. Raccoons are strong and persistent, often exploiting roofline intersections, while squirrels commonly access structures at edges and vents. Seasonal pressure in late fall can increase attempts to access warm attic spaces.

Treatment / Removal

On the first visit, we installed species-specific one-way doors to allow the raccoon and squirrel to exit without harm. A raccoon one-way door was installed at a soffit-to-roof intersection, and a squirrel one-way door was installed at the roof drip edge. These devices allowed the animals to leave while preventing re-entry.

Exclusion & Repairs

Following successful eviction, we completed targeted exclusion work using galvanized steel materials. This included screening a plumbing vent to prevent shingle lift access, sealing a soffit intersection, and installing four wall vent covers. All materials were mechanically fastened and formed to the structure to provide long-term resistance against wildlife entry.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the second visit, the homeowner reported no further noise or activity in the attic. We confirmed the absence of wildlife, removed the one-way doors, and inspected all exclusion points. No additional activity was reported following completion of the work.
